PAHANG, MALAYSIA - The Click! Camp is a 4 day/3 night residential program for 200 underserved Malaysian 13-15 year olds youths focused on English language enrichment, leadership skills development and fostering a sense of social responsibility and community service. The Click! Camp was held from the 11th to 14th November 2010 at the Legend Resort in Cherating, Pahang, Malaysia.
The Click! Camp is a camp for youth by youth. The participants of the program are from Selangor, Terengganu and Kelantan. The students are beneficiaries of the various English enrichment programs funded by the US Embassy Kuala Lumpur.
The key highlights of the Camp were workshops on developing a global mindset, leadership skills, community outreach/service principles, global climate change and the value of exchange programs in the United States for youth. The objectives of the Camp were to instill in the youth participants a global mindset, a sense of social responsibility and an opportunity to give back to the community of Pahang. The youth participants also had to network and be mentored by leaders of the over 5,000 alumni of U.S. Embassy sponsored exchange programs including: the Fulbright Program, the International Visitor Leadership Program, the Humphrey Fellowships, the YES program, the Study of the U.S. Institutes for Student Leaders, the Global Undergraduate Program (UGRAD) and the East West Center Programs.
The participants of the Click! Camp were also supported by over 60 Alumni of U.S. Embassy sponsored exchange programs. These alumni are all members of the Malaysian-American Alumni Partnership who joined together for the inaugural Alumni Community Weekend 2010 and they came together to support the Click! Camp participants in their community outreach projects.
His Excellency Paul W. Jones, U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia traveled from Kuala Lumpur with his family to lend his support to this community- and youth focused initiative.
The Click! Camp culminated in the Community Outreach Program on Sunday, 14th November where participants of the Click! Camp and the Alumni Community Weekend came together to put into practice the spirit of giving back to the community acquired during the 4 days at the Camp. There were in total 10 projects around the Cherating area ranging from a visit to the turtle sanctuary and repainting of the local surau. The Ambassador joined three of the projects, the Turtle Sanctuary, English language Enrichment event at the Tadika Chendor and the Surau Repainting at the Kampung Cherating Lama.
